Housing

The Claremont of Rachel’s youth was a vibrant community of artists, academics, working individuals, and small business owners—a place where families flocked to top-notch schools and pristine open spaces. She envisions a Claremont where business owners, employees, multigenerational families, educators, and artists can all own homes.

Rachel will advocate for housing policies that address Claremont’s evolving needs. This includes tenant protections to prevent homelessness, development standards for environmentally sound housing, and affordable housing options for all. She will work locally and regionally to develop innovative solutions for the complex housing crisis.

Education

Claremont is home to leading academic institutions in the San Gabriel Valley and serves as a landing spot for student scientists, scholars, writers, and entrepreneurs from across the country. Supporting our local educational institutions is critical to Claremont’s cultural identity and financial success.

Declining CUSD enrollment is pricing families out of our community. Rachel understands that quality education accessible to all is vital for a truly livable city. As a longtime resident, Rachel has built strong relationships with members of the CUSD school board, administration, staff, faculty, and parents. By leveraging the City government’s role as a connector between colleges, CUSD, and Claremont residents, she aims to enhance opportunities for collaboration and mutual benefit.

Open Spaces

With parks in every neighborhood and the expansive Claremont Hills Wilderness Park in the north, Claremont boasts more open recreational space than most California suburbs. Rachel is deeply committed to being a good steward of the land for future generations to enjoy.

During her tenure on the Community and Human Services Commission, Rachel was aware of the many challenges—from climate change to inadequate funding—that we face in maintaining these spaces. Addressing these challenges requires collaboration and creativity. She has supported reforestation efforts with Sustainable Claremont and facilitated education and outreach for the Claremont Wildlands Conservancy through her work with the League of Women Voters. She will continue to advocate for our parks.

Public Safety

Public safety is the foundation of a healthy, thriving community. At its core, public safety ensures that every person—regardless of where they live, their background, or their income—feels secure and supported. It’s more than the absence of crime; it’s about fostering an environment where people live without fear, where neighbors look out for one another and systems are in place to protect the most vulnerable among us.

Safe Streets

Rachel believes that the core of Claremont’s transportation policies should focus on creating a safe and accessible network for residents while addressing our climate crisis, housing crunch, and rising cost of living. She will collaborate with commissions, city staff, and community members to enhance infrastructure and sustainability and improve connections between transportation options for all ages and abilities. This includes enhancing walkability and safety with a focus on the needs of older adults, people with disabilities, children, and others facing mobility challenges, ensuring that everyone can navigate the city comfortably and securely.
